Scar

Overview

It is important to distinguish various types of scars.

All wounds, including surgical incisions, heal with scar tissue. Sometimes, these surgical scars are barely noticeable. Other times, the scars can be visible (red, raised)...and can be called 'hypertrophic' or 'keloid'.

Products are available that can help reduce the redness or raised appearance of these scars.

Products are also available to cover over these scars (makeup products).

But when talking about the healing of a chronic wound, they can also heal by filling in with scar tissue. Surgeons might attempt to surgically correct a wound by using a flap, reducing the amount of scar formation that forms.
